Why do mother fuckers lie?
When a cop pops you with drugs and you are quite obviously busted; why do people always say, "It's not mine". Obvious answer is that fear grips up on you and suddenly lying seems like a way out. Although, you are smart enough to recognize internally that you will be arrested, it seems fairly rational at the time.
So why bother at all? Fear is a pretty strong thing. When you are afraid of something it has a power over you that can't be denied or disputed. That's the nearly logical form of lying, self preservation. The other, and this one kills me, is compassion.
next...
Compassion is the worst lie in the world. Why do you say to a girl "no, those jeans don't make your ass look big", when they quite obviously do? Why, when breaking up with someone do you say "it's not you, it's me", when in reality we all know that it is them? They even know you are full of shit.
COMPASSION: The other deadly sin. These are the lies you tell to spare someone's, sometimes even your own, feelings. Little white lies, big dirty lies, lies where your pants should obviously be on fire.
These are the lies that hurt, the ones that never go away, the ones that have repercussions you haven't imagined, never foresaw and never want to deal with. In the jeans example, you've told a seemingly small lie to someone to spare their feelings. What have you actually done? You've just sent that person into the world with a pair of pants that makes them look as though one of their parents was possibly an elephant.
In the second example, you've just let that person go off into the world thinking that they had no issues to resolve, when obviously, you just made them an EX- for a reason. Now that little lie, again sparing someone elses feelings, has just damned the next person that they date to deal with their baggage, and YES that IS your fault.
So what am I getting at? For fuck's sake, think before you lie to someone, even the little stupid lies you tell have consequences, whether they are felt by you, or someone else, they are very real.
Lying will never actually help anything. While the truth WILL set you free, even if it seems the harsher option, the end result for everyone is much better; No matter how bizarre the truth may be, it is always better than the lie.
While I claimed I don't suffer from either of these afflictions, that's not wholely true; I tell lies of compassion to myself, to make me feel better. Look what a sick fucker that has made me.
